The USB port is helpful if you want to play MP3 music, but make sure you know that the only way you can Karaoke is by playing CD+G Karaoke disks. No CD+G DISK = no Karaoke.
Also, I've had some build quality issues. This unit is going to be returned.

I bought this to use at a family reunion and thought it would be fun for the granddaughters. We've had a great time with it and I've since then bought 10+ karaoke CD's. I'd say the quality of equipment workmanship is a little disappointing, however, I've used it for DVD's and the picture is as good as my JVC. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
